Veneers - Is It Right For You?

By Nicole Paisley

Before we can get to a point of understanding dental veneers, it would be a good idea to first have a fundamental understanding of what porcelain dental veneers are, and what their role in dentistry is.

Dental veneers, as name says, are veneers that are used over teeth. In simpler terms, they are specially-made tooth coverings. Like all other kinds of veneers, dental veneers are meant to cover-up for something on the teeth.

There are 2 categories of people who utilize this method - of wearing porcelain dental veneers - for their teeth whitening problems. The first category is that of those whose teeth are so badly stained that they will not respond to bleaching, which is for lots of people the 'first line of treatment' for teeth whitening. The next category is that of those whose teeth may not be so terribly stained, however who see the idea of teeth whitening rather off-putting. Both groups have in dental veneers a teeth whitening alternative that produces ideal results, and one whose effect holds for a long time.

Other things that veneers can cover include imperfect teeth alignment, missing teeth, or teeth spacing defects.

Naturally, the use of veneers is not limited to cosmetic dentistry alone. Outside of cosmetic dentistry, porcelain dental veneers might also be used in the treatment of fractures and chips in the teeth - particularly fractures and chips which are so huge that bonding would not work in fixing them.

There are 2 primary kinds of dental veneers: porcelain dental veneers and the so-called composite dental veneers.

What distinguishes veneers is the product from which they are made. Porcelain veneers are made from the material known as porcelain, whereas the so-called composite veneers are made from resin.

The porcelain for making the veneers is usually worked into a really thin film by using specialized machinery, so that upon their positioning in the patient's mouth, they end up blending with the rest of the teeth that any person will never see that something was done to the teeth.

If you are thinking about getting this kind of treatment, realize that today's methods are designed to work quickly and to work without most of the pain that used to be connected with old methods.
