5 Ways To Reduce Your Risk Of Cancer

By Rey Vetangelo

If you are looking for a whiter and brighter smile, you may be looking into aesthetic and cosmetic dentistries. But, what is the difference between the two? The difference is very slight and hard to differentiate sometimes. They both have the same basic purpose to make your teeth look better.

Cosmetic dentists specialize in procedures that improve the visual appearance of one's teeth. While not everyone can relate to the difficulties bad teeth may bring, many individuals struggle with emotional and mental turmoil over the fact that their teeth may host any number of unsightly and potentially humiliating problems. Cosmetic dentists seek to correct these issues and leave people happy with the appearance of their teeth.

One of the most common procedures that cosmetic dentists perform is whitening of the teeth. People who have routinely used coffee or cigarettes find that their teeth can become stained and discolored. Cosmetic dentists can whiten your teeth by first taking a mold of them. He then uses this mold to make a custom tray that is filled with a whitening agent and then is put over your teeth. The formula bleaches any stains your teeth might have contracted and returns them to their original color.

If tooth whitening doesn't work, the alternative routinely offered by cosmetic dentists to whiten teeth is the veneer. Veneers are composite or porcelain coverings for your teeth that don't whiten the teeth themselves, but are attached to the front of the teeth to give the appearance that your teeth are shaped correctly and perfectly white.

While summer is fun, and we all love the warm feel of the sun on our skin, skin cancer is one of the most common and preventable forms of cancer. While you are outside enjoying sunny days, wear ample sunscreen and avoid being in direct sunlight for extended periods of time, specifically during midday or between 10 am and 4 pm. Most importantly, resist the urge to 'fake bake' or get a tan using tanning beds and sun lamps.

However, it will take more visits to reach the desired color. Either way, it is not permanent, and it will require touching up within a few years. Keep in mind that the whitening will not work on fillings and related dentistry already in your mouth.

Being healthy and being cosmetically appealing are not necessarily mutually exclusive. There are circumstances in which they can be both, such as white fillings. They are much prettier than regular fillings or amalgams as they are white, but they could also be considered healthier as they do not require as much removal of tooth structure.

Dentists overall perform a valuable service to their customers. However, for those who may have issues with how their teeth look or are shaped, consider contacting a dentist in Draper to inquire about how to schedule a consultation with a cosmetic dentist.
