Rid Yourself Of Your Wisdom Teeth Pain

By Betty Dawson

Discomfort stemming from your teeth may be the result of your wisdom teeth pain. Sometimes, the only relief is the removal of your wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are located at the lack of the mouth and arise after age 17. The doctor will advise a patient to remove their wisdom teeth if they feel there is reason to.

A person with a small mouth is susceptible to jaw pain, causing a need to remove the wisdom teeth. To create further problems from arising, the wisdom teeth may be removed.

The fact that wisdom teeth take longer to come out fully, the gum starts to overlap the tooth. This would create a flap where bacteria and food particles can get stuck. If this happens, then an infection can be a possibility so it is best to remove the tooth before such a complication.

Wisdom teeth are not all removed in the same way. In fact, some are removed from other angles to avoid putting pressure on other teeth, causing immense pain to the person.

Wisdom teeth are removed in a surgical procedure. Anesthesia is required by doctors to numb the area before the procedure. An x-ray taken shows the impacted area/tooth before the procedure. In order for the tooth to be removed, the gums and bones covering the teeth are removed.

However, the process is not as easy as just removing a tooth in one step. Sometimes, the procedure requires the tooth to be broken down into pieces. In the end, the impacted area may require stitches due to cuts. Stitches can be the removable kind to dissolve themselves or stitches in a more permanent form, only to be removed a few days after surgery.

After the procedure ends, it is best to stay relaxed. Take pressure off of the infected area by cleaning the area and avoiding biting your mouth and cheeks. This may cause unwanted bleeding. Additionally, do not touch the area with your hands to avoid possible future complications.

Placing an ice pack on your cheek will control and decrease the swelling, limiting the pain and help the recovery process. Hence, removing the tooth can be a long procedure, but it sometimes is the only way to get rid of wisdom teeth pain.
