Dentist In Frisco Texas Gives Free Advice

By Jessica Flesey

Dental hygiene is considered a standard aspect of healthcare in general. Just as washing hands prevents many diseases from spreading, so too do mouthwash, tooth brushing, and flossing prevent unpleasant diseases like gingivitis and periodontal disease. An important aspect of this aspect of preventative medicine is finding a dentist in whom you can trust. Dentists assist their patients with all steps of dental care and devise plans of care to promote healthy teeth.

The first thing you can do to promote optimal dental health is clean your teeth and mouth thoroughly twice a day. Start with an ADA-approved mouthwash, which can disinfect the entire mouth with a stiff cocktail of alcohol and disinfectants. The sting of mouthwash is quite necessary due to the oft-cited fact that the interior of a human adult's mouth is dirtier than many unsavory items, including a dog's mouth and a bathroom counter top. Next, flossing will help to remove debris from in between teeth, ensuring that tartar and plaque (due to bacteria) do not build up. Additionally, flossing stimulates the gums, preventing gums from bleeding or becoming inflamed--the initial signs of the gum disease gingivitis. Finally, brush with an ADA-approved toothpaste for about a minute. The areas in the back of the mouth, as well the inner side of teeth, are common places for plaque buildup and staining.

Many older patients require dentures since their teeth have slowly deteriorated over a long period of years. Dentists and doctors of dental surgery (DDS) will provide consultations about this routine procedure. Those with cavities or tooth pain might require root canals, fillings, or prescription medicine to remedy the pain or infection. Many young adults in their teens require braces to adjust and realign teeth that might have grown in out of line or crooked. This can often be done with an "invisible" set of braces that fit onto teeth and are essentially undetectable to the average onlooker. An increasingly popular procedure is teeth whitening, which essentially involves the bleaching of teeth to remove stains due to smoking, coffee consumption, or other stain-inducing foods and drinks. These specific and specialty services can be completed in our Frisco Dentist office and are typically very noninvasive.

Of course, some of the most important parts of dental care occur outside of the dentist's office. One should choose ADA-approved toothpastes and mouthwashes in order to ensure that one is using the most effective cleaning materials available. Additionally, brushing twice a day is perhaps the most simple but important aspect of dental care. Teeth brushing not only eliminates plaque and tartar buildup--it is also the single most significant thing people can do to eliminate bad breath and to whiten teeth. One should not brush more than twice a day as it can erode enamel from teeth (enamel is the hard, protective coating covering all teeth).

For patients who are seeking straighter teeth, there are now invisible brace options. These use a series of trays that gradually adjust up the level of tension. Ultimately, making teeth straighter.

Often, patients only show up in the dental office when problems occur. However, here additional reasons to see your dentist. Our office, and our dentist encourages our patients to see our doctor at least twice per year.

Teeth Cleaning - Plaque builds up quickly when it isn't removed regularly, and it has been clinically proven that brushing alone will not prevent plaque deposits on the teeth. Clean teeth are the best defense against oral problems of all kinds.

To Prevent Other Health Problems - The mouth is a portal to our bodies, and if not cared for properly it is a way for harmful micro-organisms to enter the body in the bloodstream or digestive tract. Tooth decay and periodontal disease can lead to other serious health problems such as complications associated with stroke, heart disease, and diabetes. This is why early detection and prevention are so vital to not only oral but overall health.
