Being Proactive about Preventing Cavities

By Rey Vetangelo

If you are tired of getting bad breath on dates from the thing you eat, it is time to do something about it. After all, it can be very embarrassing trying to carry on an intimate conversation after eating a delicious meal with garlic in it.

You do not have to take medications or scrape your tongue until it is raw-simply try some of these natural foods to help you deal with unwanted oral odor.

While dentists say brushing your teeth is always the best option, when you are out on the town it may not be an options-try these instead.

What more can be done by these individuals to prevent an occurrence? Perhaps it is time for them to take a more proactive approach to dental care.

For those who are prone to cavities, your first step should be scheduling regular dental appointments. An examination of your teeth will be conducted to determine whether any cavities are forming.

Be sure your dentist is an established professional in his trade. A well trained dentist will know the importance of preventing cavities before they start destroying your teeth.

Next, try some lemon wedges. While they are a little too sour to be comfortable for some, they can do a great deal of good.

These scans can reveal what a visual inspection might not on its own. The ability to enhance and get a complete view of all of the angles within the mouth gives the dentist a considerable amount of precision and accuracy when it comes to checking for problems that might arise.

The last way that the dentist might check for issues is by utilizing an x-ray machine. X-rays are useful because they show the placement of the bones, and the quality of the teeth.

The lemon works to neutralize these stinky smells, leaving your mouth feeling clean and refreshed. It is no wonder that so many household cleaners are lemon scented-let it work for your mouth as well as your house!

Combining all of these procedures together makes for a very thorough dental exam. Issues that might arise can be nipped in the bud because of the overall quality of information that is derived from the experience.

Keeping your mouth well hydrated washes away these pesky germs and keeps you fresher, longer. Take a few long gulps of water, and this should help immensely.

Appointments every third to fifth year will include the taking of x-rays of the mouth at some point during the exam. When x-rays are taken of your mouth, make sure that all of your teeth are included in the x-rays.

When you chew raw ginger in tiny little pieces, it can take away any other smells or tastes already in your mouth. As an added bonus, ginger also helps reduce sweating-not a bad deal all the way around.

Although x-rays at every appointment are not covered by most insurance policies, you may want to spend a little extra on an appointment or two so as to better prevent cavity formation.

These foods dislodge plaque and other food particles that are stuck in your teeth. Not only do apples, carrots, and celery help reduce this plaque and other unpleasant bacteria, but also munching on them creates the saliva that helps you to clean out your oral cavity naturally.

Last but not least, yogurt can have great effects as well. While it may seem a little sour, making plain, sugar free yogurt part of your daily diet decreases the amount of hydrogen sulphide present in your oral cavity.

Add a little bit of granola to your yogurt and you have a delicious meal that will leave you odor free. Next time you reach for the gum or mints, keep in mind that some of these substances actually cause bacteria to grow, causing your bad breath down the line.

The dentist is trying to help you maintain the health of your mouth. Take the time to learn about relevant information and make him aware of your concerns during your appointments with him. The best way to treat a cavity is to prevent it. Do everything you can to preserve your teeth!
