How a Smile Makeover Can Make You Look Younger

By Alex Marsden

One of the big crazes at the moment is looking younger; the television is swamped with programs on how to make you look ten, fifteen or even twenty years younger. New wardrobes, haircuts and make-up are popular on all of these shows but there is now one other area which is becoming more and more prominent, and that is teeth.

Teeth are often a tell-tale sign of telling how old someone is, for as we get older our teeth tend to become more exposed to the things they shouldn't be like tea, coffee and sugar. Also as we get older and move away from home we don't have our parents shouting at us telling us to watch what we eat and to brush our teeth before we go to bed! Teeth can be in good condition but be discoloured or stained, the good news is that there are many cosmetic treatments available that can sort exactly these sorts of problems.

To rid yourself of stained teeth the best solution is laser whitening. It's a cosmetic dental treatment that takes about an hour and it's totally pain free. A whitening gel is applied to the teeth and a laser is used to activate the gel and start the whitening process. It's a great quick fix for those who want a boost before a big event or party, but what if your teeth need a little more work, what options are there?

Teeth that are misshapen, broken or chipped can often be treated with a veneer, or in some cases, a dental implant can be fitted which will take the place of the tooth. Veneers are shaped and coloured to fit over an existing tooth, whereas an implant is used when the tooth cannot be salvaged. Both treatments can be exactly matched to your existing teeth and the shape of your smile, giving a natural result.

To keep your teeth looking good it is never too late to review and improve on your daily dental care routine. Brushing twice a day should be the very least you do, integrating flossing and mouthwash can lead to keeping your teeth healthy and looking young. Coupled with regular visits to the dentist you should have teeth that will be the envy of all of your peers and a smile that will take years off your age.

When you look younger, sporting possibly a new smile or haircut it is then time to start getting active. It's no secret regular exercise and fresh air helps with keeping youthful looks and it can also lead to a busier social life at the same time. Look and feel younger, that is the secret to success!
