Various Kinds of Modern Cosmetic Dental Treatments

By Brendan Brown

If your teeth are stained, rotten or have gaps, modern cosmetic dental treatments may be able to help you bring that pretty smile back. There are many procedures that dentists can perform to make your teeth look worthy of a smile. If you are looking for a cosmetic dentist, find out if he or she is licensed because some treatments will require anaesthesia.

Teeth whitening procedures are very common dental treatments that enable your dentist to lighten the shade of your teeth. Teeth whitening or bleaching is also an affordable cosmetic dental treatment. Your dentist will actually bleach the teeth to a lighter shade and not exactly whiten it per se. Making the patients teeth too white will look too unnatural.

Installing veneers is also another treatment that also lightens the colour of your teeth. These veneers are thin resin coverings that cover visible areas of your teeth. Your dentist will shave off a thin layer of your tooth before placing the veneer. Once the material is in place, your dentist can then trim and shape the veneer to make them look like real teeth.

Tooth bonding is also another effective treatment that can make the teeth look whiter. A soft resin is created at a laboratory and then later applied to the teeth by a dentist. Your dentist will use a laser to harden the resin. Once hard, the bonding material can be shaped and buffed to look like real teeth.

Crowns are also common solutions for fixing damaged or decayed teeth. The crowns are placed above the gum line. They look like real teeth and cover broken or decayed teeth. They can also keep a cracked tooth together. They can also be used to cover discoloured teeth. Materials for crowns can include metal, resin, ceramic or porcelain.

An inlay or onlay can fill in spaces left by tooth decay. Inlays are fillings placed inside teeth, while onlay refers to the filling compound that are placed on the exterior of teeth like the biting surface. The fillings are prepared in a dental laboratory before a dentist can place it in your tooth at the clinic.

Modern cosmetic dental treatments should be performed by a qualified and well-trained dentist because they often need to use sedatives. A tooth implant is one of the procedures that requires anaesthesia. In this procedure, metal rods are implanted into your jaw bone that will hold fake teeth permanently in place.
