Dental Implants As A Missing Tooth Option

By James Richards

As with any technology there has been many improvements over the last few years in the dental industry. One of those is dental implants. They are as close as you can get to tooth replacement. With this system, a stud is implanted into your jaw within the bone. A synthetic tooth is then bonded to that stud. It acts and feels like a natural tooth.

Like with any procedure, some patients are not perfect candidates. If there is significant bone loss that cant be repaired with grafts or other procedures, then there is no ability to place the abutment or stud needed to bond the implant to. You would have to understand that it would be hard to make it work for a specific case like that. As long as your structure is in good shape, the system should work wonderfully.

The dentist will do an evaluation and make sure the patient can have an implant placed. They will need a panographic x-ray that will show the full mouth area and evaluate any bone loss. If there is bone loss, they will have a periodontist evaluate bone grafting and see if they can build the area up. If that is not an option, they would need to check into a bridge or partial denture.

Implants are being covered under dental insurance now on some policies as they were not in the past. There are also affordable financing plans through different lenders set up with dental practices. Look seriously at the costs involved and how happy you will be with this type of work.

If you are opting for the implant, you can expect to have a few visits. The consultation will be the first visit. The dentist will typically have a treatment co-coordinator go over all costs with you. This is important in deciding the course of treatment you would like to pursue. You will want to make plans to have time available to make several appointments to finish all treatment.

The setup for an implant is pretty simple. If your jaw is in great shape, then you would look at having an abutment placed into the jaw. That is the stud that the tooth will bond to. Once this is in place, and the gum is healed, then your new tooth is prepared, and bonded in place. Some healing of the gums is needed for around 2 weeks or so. This allows the gum to encompass the tooth and look even more natural. Other types of dentures and placements have similar procedures.

Pricing is a major factor with any work done. Be it a crown, denture or anything else. You do not have to settle as there is better things than just a denture or bridge for repair work. Also financing is available, and many locations have several options to help you out, just ask what they can offer. Dental implants are an incredible solution that look better, feel natural, and have low maintenance.
