Why Should You Pick Clear Braces

By James Robinson

Let's face it; the majority of people will need corrective dental care at some point or another. Whether an individual needs to fix an overbite or crooked teeth, he or she will most likely need to visit the local orthodontist. There are basically two solutions to their dental needs. They can choose the traditional metal braces, or they can opt for the more aesthetically pleasing clear braces. However, there are a number of factors to consider when choosing either of these two devices.

Obviously, the condition of one's teeth is important in deciding on the appropriate orthodontic procedure. Severe disorders can restrict the types of dental care available to the patient. In some cases, extra appliances or procedures are necessary, requiring further specific kinds of treatment.

Ceramic brackets are a great solution for some because their colour is almost exactly the same as their teeth. Even the tiny elastic bands, or ligatures, are white or clear. These bands can sometimes stain, depending on what you eat or drink, but they are changed at each adjustment, which occurs every month. These ceramic brackets are very sturdy and, if put on in the correct manner; will withstand the strain of most conditions and needs.

Plastic alignment trays are another option you might consider, because they are about as invisible as you can get. However, they aren't as resilient as other types but they will allow you to fix your teeth with no one the wiser. You may want to note that this particular type does require an orthodontist who has been trained in this particular corrective procedure.

These transparent types are not always a viable option for some extreme cases and may not support the extra appliances or headgear sometimes required. Although exceptions exist, for many with minor to moderate needs, either ceramic brackets or plastic alignment trays provide an excellent option for correcting teeth in a discreet manner.

Another issue to regard when choosing dental procedures is the time required to correct the problem. Often, the quickest solution is not always the most attractive one. Each person has to decide if they want to reposition their teeth at a quicker pace, but with more ostensible hardware; or, if they would rather spend a little more time with braces that are less noticeable, or in some cases, almost invisible.

Clear braces, whether using ceramic brackets or plastic alignment trays, are definitely a clearer choice for anyone who desires a more cosmetic approach to dental care. There are other options for those with limited access or special conditions, but when available, the clear variety looks better and feels better on the teeth and gums.
